Tombstone Blues Trail extended

Travel for Fans_MISSISSIPPI FRED McDOWELL TOMBSTONEThe cemeteries of African-American people in rural America, as told to us one day in Mississippi, are really different from those of the white people. Often found by traveling down a dirty road, these hard to find the tombstones have a special charm. These cemeteries maybe abandoned between the cotton fields, without even a flower or a candle from relatives are in bad shape and unappealing. Sometimes broken or with a spelling mistake, these tombstones, which honor the important musicians lost in memory but for a few tracks recorded years ago on 78s by forward-looking recording companies, are witness to how this music goes far beyond life. Finding these important graves is almost if we could hear the guitar notes in the rustle of the wind.

Join us for a unique journey through the cemeteries of Mississippi, Arkansas and Tennessee searching out the country graves of the most famous bluesmen and women. By traveling with us, you can stand within six feet of the powerful musicians whose music has been so important in your life.

Join us as we travel the back roads of the blues and discover cemeteries of bluesmen and women. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAPrecise directions to get to the most desired graves, often only a piece of stone resting on the ground with just the date of birth and death and a short phrase such as “Blues Man”, are essential for not wasting time or even being lost. Only a few cemeteries have been recently renovated thanks to fundraising or sponsors, and tombstones were finally treated at the level of the musician buried there. Most of the times you will have to drive down a dirt road and park next to a small wooden church on a hill surrounded by trees and silence, simple stones on a green meadow near rolling hills in places that look calm and serene, almost joyful, behind which there is a simple lawn and finally the resting place of the authors of rural blues songs that have long accompanied your dreams.

We present the extended 2-week tour.

This tour includes a visit to the tombs of the most famous blues musicians in history who were born in Mississippi and

buried there. OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAIn both the 1-week tour and in the more comprehensive 2-week tour, however there will be visits to unique places that have hosted moments and unique characters of the genre, as well as live performances of country blues, acoustic blues and electric blues, some already planned but also organized specifically for these trips. The avid blues fans can also have tickets to blues museums and customized travel to locations far from the cities such as cotton plantations and the famous crossroads and even taking the opportunity to visit the few legends still alive, maybe even B.B. King. All blues trips will be accompanied by local experts who will help you get into the true atmosphere and lives of the Mississippi bluesmen.
